Simulation of electrical transformers presents key challenges: transport-induced dynamics that risk component damage, thermal management to ensure reliable oil cooling, and blast events driven by rapid pressure rises. As part of this work, we will also showcase EMAG analyses performed with CST Studio Suite to complement the structural and thermal studies. Technically, we begin with a frequency analysis to identify natural modes and avoid resonance issues. We then run explicit dynamic studies to evaluate transport scenarios and mitigation measures. For cooling, we perform CFD to assess oil flow distribution and heat removal under natural and forced convection conditions. For explosion-type events, we compare pressure–time loading, SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics), and CEL (Coupled Eulerian–Lagrangian) methods. The complete MODSIM workflow connects SOLIDWORKS design with 3DEXPERIENCE Simulation for model management, solving, and traceability—helping teams iterate faster, improve product quality, reduce time-to-market, and enhance competitiveness.Session Type: Masterclass - Customer Stories - Product Training - Hands-On WorkshopHome & LifestyleTransport & MobilityDesigners & EngineersEngineering & CAD ManagersSimulation Specialists3DEXPERIENCE Platform3DEXPERIENCE Computational Fluid DynamicsSOLIDWORKS Flow SimulationBeginnerIntermediateSimulationComputational Fluid DynamicsUserTuesday, Feb 034:00 p.m. Tuesday, Feb 03

This session will present a comparison between thermal simulation results and real measurements from the DropCoal experiment installed on the International Space Station (ISS). DropCoal is a device that performs multiple liquids coalescence in microgravity. Being a controlled environment, a stringent requirement is that the housing maintains a touch temperature under a given maximum. This was the starting point for the thermal analyses run using the SOLIDWORKS Thermal Simulation tools. The device model was designed so that the analysis would generate not only important information about the exterior enclosure but also relevant results for the subsystems within it. With the experiment later successfully operating in the microgravity of the Space Station, we were able to analyze the resulting thermal parameters from the thermal sensors inside and compare them with those extracted from the thermal analyses.Session Type: Masterclass - Customer Stories - Product Training - Hands-On WorkshopIndustrial Equipment (inc. The Moo-tivator 2.0, a crowd-management gate that guides cows to the milking parlor, introduced more complex motion dynamics, unique behaviors, and new structural challenges. Instead of costly prototypes, we turned to MODSIM: unified MODeling and SIMulation. Using SOLIDWORKS, 3D Motion Creator (xMotion), and the Structural Engineer Role on the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform, we built a seamless workflow to analyze motion, forces, and structural integrity early in the design process. This approach validated performance, revealed weak points, and guided improvements without extensive testing. You may not be herding cows, but you’ve likely faced tricky mechanisms, drive systems, or unproven parts. New designs for industrial equipment must balance a range of competing requirements. The new equipment must meet strict safety, environmental, and operational requirements. Additional challenges can arise from compliance with regulatory standards, integration of new technologies, and ensuring manufacturability. Understanding the equipment performance early in the design phase – as accomplished through simulation – can identify ways to improve the design and help prevent costly surprises after physical prototyping begins. The Fluid Dynamics Engineer role on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform enables simulation of fluid and thermal phenomena, including optimizing flow distribution, ensuring effective thermal management, and minimizing pressure losses. In this presentation, we’ll highlight the power of Fluid Dynamics Engineer to quickly compute KPIs for industrial equipment designs, supporting the development of centrifugal pumps, valves, heat exchangers, mixing devices, and similar equipment.Session Type: Masterclass - Best Practices & Workflows

NCE (Núcleo de Cálculos Especiais), a Brazilian CAE firm with 49+ years and 400,000+ analysis hours, applied SIMULIA Abaqus to the MLBR rocket launch structure developed by Cenic Engenharia for the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB). The objective was to establish a unified FEA framework capable of accurately predicting structural durability and static/dynamic response under real load conditions. The methodology integrated nonlinear static analysis, transient dynamic simulations, and correlation with proprietary sensor data to reproduce operational environments. Preliminary results delivered high-fidelity stress predictions, early identification of durability issues, and design optimization, reducing the need for physical prototypes and accelerating validation. Supported by SKA, this project demonstrates the strategic value of Abaqus Unified FEA in mitigating design risk and enabling efficient, cost-effective development of aerospace structures.Session Type: Masterclass - Customer Stories
